    We opened in Obama City and moved to our current location in Wakasa in autumn 2000.

About our name

Our shop is located in Wakasa Town, but our name says "Obama". When we opened, there were plans to merge Obama City and Kaminaka Town. Kaminaka eventually merged with Mikata to become Wakasa Town instead, but we kept the Obama name.

We are the closest surf shop to the Takahama area on the Sea of Japan, and we are within easy reach of the Hakodateyama, Kutsuki, Kunizakai Kogen and Imajo 365 ski areas.

OUR STORY

Our Story

Our owner discovered windsurfing at 19 and has stayed in the board-sports world ever since.

  1. Age 19

    Discovering windsurfing

    Windsurfing day and night. Every weekend meant a trip to Omaezaki in Shizuoka, the mecca of the sport.

  2. Into surfing

    Drawn into surfing, life centred on the waves. Visiting HOTSTYLE (Maizuru) regularly led to joining the staff.

  3. The snowboard boom

    Every week meant a day trip as far as Hakuba in Nagano.

  4. Age 30

    Going independent

    HOTSTYLE OBAMA opened in Obama City, Fukui.

  5. A board-sports life

    Meeting many customers who love surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding.

  6. Age 45

    Discovering SUP

    At first, the appeal of SUP was not clear. Riding a small wave on a SUP changed that — and opened up new possibilities.

Through surfing, SUP, snowboarding and skateboarding, we value the connections we make with people who share the same interests, and we support them in enjoying these sports comfortably.

Thirty years on this coast

We have run this shop here since 1995. Our owner has been on this water almost daily since taking up windsurfing at 19.

  • We choose the beach to suit the day

    Several beaches lie along the Obama and Takahama coast, and which one is calm depends on the wind. We pick the best on the day.

  • We follow the local rules

    Some beaches are closed to SUP during the swimming season; some areas must be avoided out of respect for the fishing harbours.

    Clarity, wind and water temperature change daily. We decide where to take you after looking at the sea that morning.

Our community

Umi to Nippon Project

We led a SUP session for a local elementary school as part of "Umi to Nippon". We can discuss combining tours with marine environmental learning.
